LA MERCÈ FESTIVAL
This is the festival for Barcelona's patron saint, held in the week of the 24 September, the day of La Mercè. All kinds of activities are organized. Of particular interest are the pyrotechnical music show and the BAM (independent music festival of Barcelona). In the streets, you can also see giant figures, castellers (human castles), marathons, and so on.

SANT JORDI (SAINT GEORGE)
On 23 April, the Catalans celebrate Saint George's day by offering a rose and/or book to their partners, and the main shopping streets of Barcelona are filled with book stands and rose stalls. Crowds flock to the city centre to browse and buy.

LA DIADA (Catalan National Holiday)
On 11 September, the Catalans celebrate their National Holiday (La Diada). On 11 September 1714, the troops of King Felipe V conquered Barcelona and Catalonia lost its legal and political statute. It is the day of the Catalan nationalism. |

NEW YEAR'S EVE
The New Year is welcomed following the tradition. After dinner, the Catalans eat the traditional grapes to the sound of the bells (one grape is eaten for each month, 12 grapes). After that, the party (la revetlla) begins.
